Youth Volleyball Gets Boost from Claystone Community Grant

Youth in Ryley, Tofield, Beaver County, Vegreville, and surrounding communities will have even more opportunities to get involved in sport this season, thanks to the continued growth of Hornets Volleyball Club and new support from Claystone’s Community Grant.

Through its recent funding contribution toward the purchase of 24 additional club jerseys, Claystone is helping ensure expanding rosters are properly outfitted and that new athletes can join without delay. In small-town gyms like the one at Ryley School, the next generation of future athletes is already learning the fundamentals – discipline, teamwork, and resilience. For some of these young players, today’s local practices could be the first step toward tomorrow’s biggest goals.

The Hornets offer competitive club, recreational, and development volleyball programs for local youth. Practicing out of Ryley School, the club has quickly become a hub for young athletes across the region. This season’s competitive roster includes players from Ryley, Tofield, Beaver County, and Vegreville. In previous seasons, development programming also welcomed athletes from Holden and Bawlf, and organizers are planning to expand those opportunities again this year.

The club’s growth reflects both strong community interest and dedicated local leadership. After previously operating as an unregistered organization, Hornets Volleyball Club took an important step forward by formally registering as a society in June 2025. This milestone strengthens the club’s governance and ensures it can continue building sustainable programming for years to come.

To support that growth, Claystone has provided funding toward the purchase of 24 additional club jerseys. These new uniforms will help ensure that expanding rosters are properly outfitted and that new athletes can join without delay. Having jerseys readily available allows the club to focus on what matters most — skill development, teamwork, and creating a positive sport experience. Access to organized sport in rural communities is vital.

Programs like Hornets Volleyball Club not only help youth stay active, but also build confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships.

With strong community backing and a clear commitment to youth development, Hornets Volleyball Club continues to serve as an example of how grassroots sport organizations can be a changemaker across Beaver County and beyond.

Claystone’s Community Grant program goes beyond uniforms – it represents a broader commitment to helping rural communities grow and thrive. By supporting local initiatives that bring families together and create opportunities for young people, we are continuing to play a role in strengthening community connections, ensuring that small-town Alberta continues to build from the ground up.
