Community Grant Program

Claystone started as a collaboration among neighbours and neighbouring communities. Even though we’ve grown in scale, we uphold this mentality in everything we do. We know that we’re a part of the whole and that our role in society isn’t just about the waste we remove – it’s about the positive impact we can make in the lives of individuals and communities, too.

Community Grant Program

Claystone is proud to offer grants to community not-for-profit organizations to help fund different activities. Our new grant categories make applying for a grant much easier!

The Program and Event Grant provides funding for projects, programs, or events, including annual requests (e.g. FCSS Christmas Hampers)

In-Kind Grants can be submitted anytime and will be reviewed upon receipt.

Claystone Waste recommends that requests are made as early as possible prior to the activity start date to allow time to complete the funding cycle process.

Grant Conditions and Requirements

Claystone Waste offers grants to community not-for-profit organizations to help fund different activities based on the following eligibility criteria:

  • Community organization is a not-for-profit, including schools, seniors’ lodges, hospitals and amateur sports teams.
  • Community organization operates within the boundary of Beaver County.
  • Community organization demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of residents within the Beaver County region.

Claystone Waste does not provide grants to individuals or businesses.

Municipalities and regional service commissions and authorities are not eligible for monetary grants under this program but may be eligible for in-kind grants.

Municipal libraries and FCSS departments can apply for grants for programs and events and in-kind grants.

Community organizations who receive a grant from Claystone will be required to acknowledge the support of Claystone in their public communications. Failure to do so may impact future eligibility for additional grants.

Depending on the nature of the grant request, Claystone may require the organization to provide prior, current, and other funding sponsor information pertaining to the project. Failure to disclose other funding sponsors may result in rejection of the application for funding by Claystone.

Due to high demand for grants, Claystone will only accept applications from an organization once per year.

New applications that meet the criteria may be given priority over repeat applications.

Applications for Program and Event, General Operating, and Capital Grants will be accepted and reviewed as follows:
  • Intake Period 1: January 1 to May 30, applications reviewed in June
  • Intake Period 2: July 1 to November 30, applications reviewed in December
  • In-Kind Grants can be submitted anytime and will be reviewed upon receipt.

Submit your application as early as possible prior to the activity start date to allow time to complete the funding cycle process. The project, event or activity being applied for must be completed within six months of the date in which grant approval was provided. If an extension is required, please contact comms@claystonewaste.com.

Claystone will review and assess Program and Event, General Operating, and Capital Grants applications using a defined rubric. Please review the rubric and keep the factors in mind when completing your application.

In-kind grant requests will be evaluated by determining our ability to meet the request and will not have a defined rubric.

Please note that Claystone may not be able to fund all applications even if they meet the top score of the rubric. Decisions of the grant assessment panel will be final.

Grant funding for approved applications will be paid out once Claystone has received the receipts for the project, activity or event – grant funding will not be paid out in advance.

Claystone will require original receipts or legible scans prior to releasing the grant funds.

Depending on the nature of the application, Claystone may request a copy of the organization’s financial statements.

Claystone will process payment through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). In order to process payment, successful applicants will be required to complete a New Vendor Form and provide proof of account holder information by providing a copy of a blank cheque or direct deposit form from the bank showing account ownership and banking information.

If this is not available, the applicant will need to complete a banking information form and provide a letter from the bank confirming the account holder information.

Grant applicants will be required to outline how they will acknowledge or recognize Claystone’s contribution as part of the application process including, but not limited to, a card or letter, post on the organization’s website, media, social media, or photos shared with Claystone for its use.

By submitting a request for a grant, the applicant acknowledges that Claystone will make the award of any grant or donation public on its website, social media, or traditional media.

Where appropriate, Claystone would appreciate the opportunity to attend an event or otherwise meet with your organization to learn more about how the grant funds are being used.

Claystone may require additional measures of recognition based on the value of the grant issued.
