When you first see the space Bags of Love calls home in Ryley, you would not expect the huge impact this group has on the region and around the province. But thanks to a small group of dedicated volunteers and a caring community, the Ryley branch of Bags of Love is easily one of the biggest providers of support packages for children facing crisis.
Bags of Love works primarily with local child and family service agencies that work with children going into foster care. Often, these children must leave without notice, unable to bring with them any personal belongings.
This is where Bags of Love steps in. Through this partnership, these children are provided a cloth bag that includes toiletries to tide them over for at least a couple of days, age-appropriate books and toys, along with a homemade quilt.
Similar packages are also prepared for Victim Services, who will offer a Bag of Love to children – and sometimes adults – in a crisis.
Claystone was pleased to provide this group with a grant of $1,000 to cover the cost of batting, allowing the group to continue making more quilts for children in need.
Thank you to Jewel who shared the story of Bags of Love and demonstrated how our grant will support their efforts and the people who receive these carefully curated bags of love.
