Complaint: Caller reporting odor. They just opened windows and had to close windows now. Odor rated 9/10 for severity. Wind must be coming from S but no moving leaves outside. It is a compost stink.
Claystone findings:
- Winds at the time were from the Southeast at 164° and light according to the on-site weather station.
- No compost-related odour was noted on site throughout October 2
- Odours from the nearby Ryley septic lagoon and from the landfill (MSW, municipal solid waste – common household garbage) were noted as faint odours by personnel conducting routine odour checks.
With no detectable odour from composting operations during routine checks, winds from the Southwest at the time of the complaint, and the anonymous complainant’s location unknown, it is impossible to determine whether the complaint is related to Claystone composting operations. Odours positively identified in the vicinity at the time of the complaint were those of the Ryley sewage lagoon (light to moderate) and garbage from the landfill (MSW, light and only adjacent to the landfill).
